TURN TO CHRIST TODAY!

Christ's reaction to the spiritual condition of the Laodiceans could not have been more vivid: "Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth" (Revelation 3:16). It's hard to think of a less flattering reaction, especially from the only Person in the universe whose opinion really matters. He said, in short, "You make me sick!"

If someone told us that we made him or her want to vomit, we might expect those words to be the last ones we would ever hear from that person. Such words seem appropriate for ending a relationship. However, while Christ's nature as the "faithful and true witness" meant He held nothing back in his indictment of the Laodiceans, His love and grace were present and active.

The people of Laodicea felt financially secure because of their thriving banking industry, luxurious textile trade, and famous eye salve. They thought they were rich and in need of nothing, but Jesus said they were spiritually poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17). The only effective solution was to turn to Christ for spiritual riches, garments of righteousness, and insight (3:18). The message rang out loud and clear: turn away from self-sufficiency and superficiality—turn to Christ!
