WHAT IS OUR ROLE?

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one
gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who
competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get
a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will
last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly;
I do not fight like a man beating the air." 1 Corinthians 9:24-26

The restoration of your marriage is a team effort. Charlyne and I
have thought much during the past years of ministry about what our
role is in the restoration of marriages. Let’s consider together
what it might be.

We are not the coaches, because that assignment belong to our Lord
God. He, not us, is the one to direct your every move toward a
restored home. He, not us, tells you what to do and what not to do.

Perhaps we are assistant coaches, relaying to you instruction as God,
our Coach, reveals them to us.

We could be the team physician, keeping your stand a healthy one, and
there to help bandage you up after the evil forces of this world hit
you really hard and leave you temporarily limping.

Are we your equipment managers? After all, we can keep you supplied
with books, tapes, and CD’s to help you stand strong. No, that could
not be, because the only book you really need to stand is your
Bible. The rest are all extras.

I know! We are your cheerleaders, encouraging you on for one more
play, for one more inning in this game that will have eternal
benefits, for you and your family, if played correctly.

Could we be the stadium security officers? From time to time we warn
you about dangerous activities going on around you, so that your
stand will not be damaged.

To some people, we might be the concession stand operators, with
Bob’s fiction books and Charlyne's hearty laughter bringing them
enjoyment and refreshment.

Maybe we’re the announcers. We do broadcast testimonies every
Saturday of blessings that God has delivered to our family of
standers.

Some standers might say that we are scouts, as we share what the
opposing team, Satan’s, can do to a standers who is not getting
dressed in spiritual armor every day.

How about the team owners? We pay the bills and make business
decisions related to the Ministry every day. No, because none of
this is ours. God is the owner and He has only entrusted it to us to
operate for Him for a while. Maybe we are the team’s front office
people, but we are not the owners. We listen to God, the Owner of
Rejoice Marriage Ministries, for His directions and commands.

Often we serve as water boys, giving you a drink of refreshment from
God’s Word, or tossing you a towel of encouragement, so that you are
soon ready to get back in the game.

To some people, we are the parking lot attendants, advising them
where their vehicle should never be parked, (and whose vehicle should
never be found parked at their homes.)

Program sellers. Is that our job, going through the masses of
standers, shouting, "Get your program here in Charlyne Cares. You
can’t tell the players without a program."

Well, what is our job? We seem to be a small piece of all of these
jobs, yet none of the job descriptions really fit.

I have it! Do you know the role of Bob and Charlyne Steinkamp in the
restoration of your marriage? We are your fans as you stand. Every
team position given above can he handled by God alone, if you will
allow him. Our job is to cheer you on toward the victory of a
restored marriage God’s way. We pray that you play well, so that
your number one fans won’t be disappointed.

"Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive
the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules."
2 Timothy 2:5

Blessings,
Bob (and Charlyne) Steinkamp
